Landed my first Internship(again)!

About 2 months ago, I lost my internship last minute at Kijiji due to their financial reasons.

I received offers from both BMO and Huawei in a span of an hour, and I’ve accepted the position at Huawei as an ML Research Co-op at their Noah’s Ark Lab. I was genuinely excited about both opportunities, but after speaking with the ECC, I learned that the timing with BMO might not align with my work visa and PEY co-op restrictions.

In some ways, it was unexpected as I didn’t feel I had performed particularly well in the Huawei interview but fortunately, it worked out, and I’m really excited about the opportunity.

I’m also very grateful to the interviewers at both companies. The team at BMO, especially Ivan, was incredibly kind and friendly throughout the interview, and I truly appreciated receiving an offer from them. BMO is the only bank I could see myself working for, and I remain interested in exploring roles in finance. Maybe it’s in the family DNA.

I’m also thankful to my interviewer at Huawei, Zhenhao, who was encouraging and patient with me, as well as to the recruiters from both companies for their help and fast communication.

I’m glad that I didn’t give up when I lost my internship and I’m happy to have found a place to work for my PEY term.

I’m really grateful for everyone who helped along the way, especially my mentor, and also my friends who helped me keep positive and social as I spent a lot of time just staying at home and not really going out while job-searching.

If there is one quote that I want to remember from this experience, it’s from the book Principles (Ray Dalio), that I kept a took a picture of a couple weeks ago when I was struggling to see me land a job.

My favorite part is this: “You will think you have failed —but that won’t be true unless you give up.”

Moving forward, I’ll keep this in mind and I look forward to my new opportunity.
